Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a multidisciplinary, integrated professional services firm, announced today that Paul A. Carr-Rollitt has joined as a healthcare partner in its Los Angeles office. Carr-Rollitt is a highly regarded healthcare transactional and regulatory lawyer, who will further strengthen Manatt’s fast-growing national healthcare and corporate practices.
Carr-Rollitt regularly advises a wide range of clients—including health systems, hospitals and healthcare facilities; academic medical centers; medical device companies; biotechnology and e-health companies; and managed care organizations—on the full gamut of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganizations, affiliations, public offerings and private equity transactions. Carr-Rollitt has also worked with clients on matters related to regulatory compliance, corporate governance and state licensure issues, and frequently provides counsel on complex contract negotiations and the formation, governance and operation of integrated care organizations, including affiliations between providers and health plans.
“We are excited to add Paul to our industry-leading bench of professionals who advise clients on matters at the intersection of law, policy and business strategy,” said Donna L. Wilson, Manatt’s CEO and Managing Partner. “His focus working with traditional and nontraditional healthcare players is unique, and will strengthen our already robust and diverse client base.”
Carr-Rollitt’s experience extends to investment banks, nonprofit entities and nontraditional healthcare providers, such as retail health clinics and free-standing emergency departments. He also has a deep understanding of healthcare fraud and abuse and self-referral laws; managed care laws; corporate practice prohibitions; oversight of nonprofit organizations; and other state and federal corporate, securities, and healthcare laws and regulations. His arrival follows closely on the heels of fellow West Coast health hires, regulatory partner Yarmela Pavlovic and healthcare litigator Charles Weir. Across the country, Manatt has also recently welcomed as a national advisor former CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System Ralph Muller and New York regulatory partner Meghan McNamara.
“Paul is a perfect fit with our growing healthcare transactional, regulatory and consulting practice,” said Bill Bernstein, leader of Manatt Health. “He brings with him an excellent roster of clients and has a national healthcare practice, which encompasses both payers and providers.”
“Manatt’s distinctive approach, which blends legal advice with business strategy consulting, is something I’ve always admired,” said Carr-Rollitt. “I am excited to be part of a firm that has a strong understanding of and commitment to the future of the healthcare industry and to work with some of the most forward-thinking professionals from coast to coast.”
Carr-Rollitt earned his juris doctorate from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario.
