One-fifth of the U.S. workforce is comprised of family caregivers, whose unpaid contributions include nearly 24 hours of care per week, on average, and amount to nearly $600 billion. As populations age across the globe and in the U.S., and governments strive to meet growing demand for home and community-based services, the role of family caregivers has never been more critical. However, nearly one-third of family caregivers have voluntarily left a job due to caregiving responsibilities, and many face compounding stress when caring for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, a trend that will surge in the coming decades. During this program, Manatt will lead an interactive discussion on cross-sectoral efforts from federal and state governments, businesses, investors, and long-term care advocates to unlock the potential of, and better support for, family caregivers.
Key topics include:
- Policy overview and updates regarding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers
- Innovations in Family Caregiver experience: earning income, accessing benefits, training, support, community and data connectivity
- Perspectives from forward thinking businesses offering employer-based caregiver benefits
- State policy investments to recognize family caregivers’ essential role in supporting long-term services and supports (LTSS) recipients’ independence and participation in the community
