State Health Data Organizations Grow More Sophisticated

Manatt Health Managing Director Kevin McAvey was featured in a Q&A with Healthcare Innovation where he discussed the growing potential for the development of state health data organizations (HDOs) and how states can start implementing them to help inform policymaking and regulatory decision-making.  

Informed by a recent Manatt Health white paper made possible by the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the conversation explored what a state HDO is, how they can support evidence-based policymaking, and how states are already beginning to leverage them across the country. “Every state has its own health information needs, and the best thing that a state health data organization can do is to understand the data information needs of its public health agencies, of its legislature, and of the public and look to develop reasonable plans to report on those needs,” he said.
