In his latest Entrepreneur column, Manatt Digital and Technology Managing Director Kalon Gutierrez discussed redefining the term “influencer” to better recognize those making an impact through social media. Noting the importance of this culture shift, Gutierrez said: “We have the opportunity to validate social channels as a respected, resourced and studied route to success, and to give today’s emerging leaders and entrepreneurs the tools they need to develop their own social-powered economic foundations." He also provided four ways society could help make this cultural shift happen, which include:
- Redefining the term “influencer.”
- Developing more academic curricula on social media and digital business.
- Democratizing support services.
- Expanding the scope from endorsement to partnership.
