Po Yi
Po Yi is a strategic legal partner and the leader of Manatt’s New York office. She helps her clients across a variety of industries and provides cross-purpose, multidisciplinary legal counseling on transactional and regulatory matters in advertising, entertainment and media. With over two decades of experience in private practice and in-house, Po combines deep industry knowledge, operational focus and broad legal experience in her work with clients to strategically assess and address competitive and regulatory compliance challenges, negotiate business alliances, and develop and execute advertising and marketing initiatives.
In addition to providing general counseling on advertising and marketing issues, Po regularly works with clients in:
- Sports marketing, including name, image and likeness marketing; Olympics, league and team sponsorships; and naming rights agreements
- Content marketing, including original short-form and long-form content development and distribution
- Media partnerships, media rights agreements, and media integrations with entertainment properties, including for film, TV, radio, print and digital
- Agency agreements and marketing vendor relationships
- Advertising agreements, including for buy-side and sell-side, digital, and traditional media
- Talent agreements, including spokesperson, brand ambassador and influencer agreements
- SAG-AFTRA compliance
- Social media and influencer marketing activations
- Sweepstakes, contests and other promotions
- Compliance policy and program development, including with respect to rights clearances, endorsements, claims reviews, artificial intelligence and climate/sustainability communication
Po’s clients include companies in consumer products, retail, hospitality, automotive and financial services, as well as online publishers, traditional media companies and advertising agencies.
Po was formerly vice president of and chief advertising counsel for a major financial services company in the credit card industry, where she served as lead counsel to the company’s chief marketing officer and supported brand and product marketing activities throughout the company.
A recognized thought leader, Po hosts and is the executive producer of Manatt’s Perfect Balance: An Advertising Law Podcast, acts as an editor of the Firm’s Advertising Law Newsletter, andpreviously taught communications law at Syracuse University in its S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
