Matthew L. Reece
Matthew Reece is a counsel and director, bringing a mix of both legal and business advisory experience to the Manatt Digital and Technology group from our Boston office. Matt is a highly experienced corporate, licensing and regulatory attorney and business consultant in digital and technology matters, with a particular depth of experience in sports, entertainment, technology and hospitality.
In entertainment and sports, Matt counsels clients at all stages of growth in matters relating to advertising, marketing, media, intellectual property and data privacy. He is keenly focused on the development and deployment of next-generation technology and applications—including blockchain and Web3—in sports and entertainment, inside and outside the metaverse.
Matt also has extensive experience counseling companies in other industries such as consumer products, financial services and health care in digital and technology transactions and the commercialization of intellectual property. Matt has structured, negotiated and documented a wide variety of technology-related transactions, including IT, business process and transformational outsourcing arrangements; software licensing, development, maintenance and distribution contracts; cloud computing transactions; and hardware acquisition and maintenance agreements. In connection with this work, Matt has advised clients on numerous mergers, acquisitions, development and distribution relationships, and strategic alliances.
Prior to joining Manatt, Matt served as assistant general counsel of a global food service, sporting and hospitality company, where he assumed the role of chief legal officer for an “original six” NHL franchise, arena and associated foundation. Previously, Matt worked in business consulting as well as at several large national law firms, focusing on technology transactions, corporate, intellectual property and regulatory issues.
