Mark Wiesenthal is the Managing Director of Manatt Housing Solutions. Founded by Mark in 2020, Manatt Housing Solutions is focused on developing and executing creative solutions to provide top-of-the-line, multifamily housing options for middle income families.
Mark leads and is closely involved in every aspect of each Manatt Housing Solutions transaction, including sourcing the assets, completing the underwriting and arranging the financing for each transaction. He recently closed two major deals for The Mix at CTR Anaheim, a 231-unit first class high-end apartment complex, and Alexan Anaheim, a 276-unit apartment complex that also offers 25,000 square feet of retail. Mark closely partners with RBC Capital Markets, as banking partner, on all transctions to handle the funding of tax-free municipal bonds for the deals, and frequently collaborates with members of the Manatt Housing Solutions team to navigate complex issues related to government relations, real estate transactions, and land use entitlements.
In his practice, Mark draws on his years of experience in several different capacities in the real estate industry. He began his career after college working for two Los Angeles-area developers. Following that, he and a partner formed an entrepreneurial development and contracting business that developed several apartment buildings and acted as general contractor on other projects. At the same time, Mark attended law school in the evening.
After law school, Mark began his legal career as a real estate transactional lawyer assisting clients in the full scope of real estate matters. After practicing at other large law firms, Mark moved his practice to Manatt, where he further honed his real estate legal skills and became a partner.
Mark left Manatt to become executive vice president and general counsel for one of his clients, a large, Los Angeles-based real estate investment, development and management company. There, Mark worked with the president and chairman of the company and was involved in all aspects of the company’s business and legal affairs.
Prior to returning to Manatt, Mark most recently served as a principal for a large private equity firm. There, he led the real estate investment team in more than $500 million of direct real estate acquisitions, more than $350 million of financings and more than $350 million of dispositions. Mark and his team handled all aspects of these investments, including sourcing, underwriting, diligence, acquisitions, financing, renovations, operations and dispositions. In addition, Mark’s team negotiated and formed several real estate investment limited partnerships and joint ventures.
