Justin Jones Rodriguez

Justin Jones Rodriguez is a trial attorney and represents clients in class actions and other complex and high stakes cases. J.J.’s clients span multiple industries, including retail, consumer products, marketing and health care. He also represents public entities in complex litigation against other public entities and private companies.

J.J. has defended clients in class litigation for his entire career and has extensive experience in consumer class actions involving unfair competition, false advertising and other consumer protection matters. J.J. represents retail, consumer products and marketing companies across the United States in a wide array of class cases, including lawsuits in the growing areas of automatic renewal law, early termination and cancellation fees, “junk fees” and drip pricing, false reference pricing and discounts, and other deceptive pricing and advertising disputes. J.J. and Manatt’s consumer protection team are often first movers accustomed to litigating issues of first impression when California and other jurisdictions enact new or amend existing consumer protection statutes.

J.J. also represents clients in government investigations and enforcement actions initiated by local, state and federal regulators. In California, J.J. has represented multiple clients in investigations by the California Automatic Renewal Taskforce. In addition to working with clients to successfully navigate litigation and investigations, J.J. works with clients to perform compliance reviews, enhance disclosures and train their teams.

In the health care space, J.J. specializes in managed care litigation and represents some of the largest health plans in the United States. He defends managed care health plans and insurance companies in class actions involving medical and pharmacy benefits, coverage determinations, behavioral health, plan interpretation, experimental procedures and treatments, member reimbursements, Department of Managed Health Care and Department of Insurance Regulations, and other areas.

J.J.’s pro bono work has included class litigation on behalf of natural disaster survivors, impact litigation to advance the civil rights of LGBTQIA+ people, and asylum work for underserved communities.

Prior to joining Manatt, J.J. was an educator. For more than a decade, he taught public speaking, communications studies and argumentation to students at the middle school through university levels. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Kim McLane Wardlaw in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and as a law clerk to the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund.
