The International Trademark Association’s annual meeting brings together more than 9,000 intellectual property professionals, who will explore cutting-edge issues involving trademark law and will discuss strategies to help companies protect their brands.
Linda Goldstein, Chair of Manatt’s Advertising, Marketing & Media Division, will participate in a panel discussion titled, “Social Media – An Ever Changing, Challenging and Competitive World: How to Provide Legal and Business Advice to Clients.” Linda will join panelists Elliot Basner of Diageo North America and Lo-Mae Lai of American Media Inc. to shed light on the business and legal issues that may arise for global consumer products companies when promoting a new brand through social media, including Facebook, Twitter, foursquare, Groupon and unique apps.

On June 12, 2012, the Food & Supplements Subcommittee and the Products Liability Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation will host its annual Food & Supplements Workshop.

With the competitive economy has come a rapid increase in the number of advertising lawsuits filed in court and before the National Advertising Division. To help companies protect their brands against these challenges, the American Conference Institute will host its annual conference on Litigating and Resolving Advertising Disputes.
Manatt partner Steve Raptis has been invited to serve on a panel titled “Defining Advertising Injury: Protecting Coverage Rights When the Company is Sued for False or Misleading Advertising.” Steve will offer insight on how advertisers and other companies can protect their rights to insurance coverage if they are the subjects of a lawsuit and what they can do to prepare for potential secondary litigation with an insurance carrier.
Linda Goldstein will take the stage to present “Developing a Strategy to Combat the Uptick in Litigation Challenging the Marketing and Labeling of Food Products” where she and other panelists will provide practical guidance on drafting, evaluating and deciding on proposed health benefit claims that are compliant with FTC and FDA regulations.
