Advertising, Marketing and Media Partner Jeffrey Edelstein was quoted in The National Law Journal on the FTC seeking comments in connection with whether to approve facial recognition software to obtain parental consent prior to collecting or using preteen’s data.
In particular, the issue being considered is how “Privacy-Protective Facial Age Estimation” technology could determine whether the face being used to provide consent belonged to an adult or a child. Edelstein noted that the FTC’s proposal was “very interesting” and noted that the use of it was not only similar to the technology already being used on phones, but that it would make “it much easier for companies to obtain verifiable parental consent.”
