Manatt Health Partner Kinda Serafi was quoted in MedPage Today about the unwinding of the pandemic-era protections for Medicaid enrollees when the public health emergency (PHE) ends.
According to the article, millions of individuals could lose Medicaid coverage as a result of the unwinding. At the beginning of the PHE, “we were seeing considerable enrollment, and now we're really worried about the potential coverage loss of eligible people," Serafi said. She discussed the difficulties in trying to identify and contact beneficiaries who may no longer be eligible. “This is problematic because over the last 2 years, people have moved, their life circumstances have changed, and they haven't contacted their Medicaid agencies,” she noted. “And once we get returned mail, we won't be able to find the person to say, ‘Please help us understand what your eligibility is so that we can keep you covered.’”
