A Manatt team led by corporate and finance partner Aydin Caginalp represented international music powerhouse BMG Rights Management in its acquisition of Tina Turner’s music interests. The acquisition includes the legendary rock and soul singer’s music catalog, including Turner’s share of her recordings and music publishing assets; neighboring rights; and her name, image and likeness. The deal comprises ten studio albums, two live albums, two soundtracks and five compilations that have sold over 100 million records, making it the largest single-artist rights acquisition BMG has made since its formation.
Manatt is proud to have served as U.S. counsel for BMG in the transaction of such an iconic catalog of musical and commercial interests. Turner has received 12 Grammy Awards, has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, and was the first black artist and the first female artist to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone, among other honors.
The Manatt team advising BMG Rights Management also included Manatt Entertainment partner Monika Tashman and corporate and finance partner Scott Schwartz.
