Manatt Health Managing Director Jocelyn Guyer is quoted in InsideHealthPolicy on the hefty increases in the federal fiscal year 2022 budget request aimed at addressing the opioid and substance use epidemic. The publication reported that policy watchers note the funding for opioid and substance use disorder solutions could signal an increased acknowledgement of government payers’ role in combatting the crisis. However, Guyer expressed that she would still like to see a greater commitment from the federal government to long-term policy change and funding sources. “I would just continue to keep an eye out on long-term changes that might be helpful, which is really where Medicare and Medicaid tend to come in a little bit more because they’re the sustainable financing source,” Guyer said.
