Manatt’s Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, a managing director with Manatt Health, spoke to Stateline about the state of Washington becoming the first to offer a “public option” for health insurance.
Proponents of a public option say that it would provide consumers with health insurance that is more affordable. Policymakers have said that public option health plans would have significant government control.
Brooks-LaSure said these states would have to clearly define their role in public option health plans.
“Public option means the government being more prescriptive,” she said. “There’s more of the state weighing in.”
