Joel Ario, managing director of Manatt Health, spoke with the Los Angeles Times on short-term health plans and how they have been impacted by the Trump administration’s relaxation of Obama-era healthcare regulations.
Ario said that such a rollback of regulations could have “ugly trade-offs” for participants.
“They include shady marketing that leaves people with unexpected bills trying to avoid bankruptcy, or worse, unable to even get care for themselves or their loved ones outside the emergency room,” Ario said. “Insurance regulators will see a lot more of these heartbreaking cases.”
