Manatt’s Lisa Suennen, an incoming managing director with our Manatt Health team, was interviewed by MedCity News for an article on the direct-to-consumer business model.
The publication noted that several startups have entered the healthcare consumers market trying to sell to providers. While some argue that the approach is effective if a company’s product improves overall wellness, others claim that the approach can be tricky because consumers don’t want to spend money on things insurance won’t reimburse them for.
Suennen said that consumers have been largely shielded from paying the costs of healthcare by their insurance plans, which has created expectations that healthcare products and services will be covered by their health plans.
