Manatt’s John Libby, leader of the investigations and white collar defense group, spoke with CNBC on President Trump’s pledge to take executive action to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
This comes two weeks after the Supreme Court ruled against the addition of the question to the census, according to CNBC.
Libby said that Trump would have to come up with a new reason for adding the question, but it could prove difficult.
“Any kind of after-the-fact rationalization is going to look just like that, like an after-the-fact rationalization,” said Libby. “I just don’t see how they can logically do that.”
