Manatt’s Lisa Suennen, leader of the firm’s digital and technology group, spoke with BioPharma Dive about the low number of female CEOs in the biotech industry.
Female CEOs make up less than 10 percent of the industry’s top leaders—15 out of 180 leading biotech companies were led by women last year, according to a recent analysis by BioPharma Dive. Some in the industry have asked the Biotechnology Innovation Organization to take action and increase gender diversity in the industry.
Suennen said she is underwhelmed by the current pace of progress toward this goal.
“The progress I’ve seen is mostly that we’re talking about it now,” Suennen said. “It’s just too slow.”
