Bromley Among Music Industry Leaders Named to Music Artists Coalition

Rock Stars Form Lobbying Group to Counter Tech Giants’ Power
– Bloomberg

Manatt’s Jordan Bromley, leader of the firm’s entertainment transactions and finance practice, has been named to the board of the Music Artists Coalition, a new lobbying group composed of leading figures in the music industry.

The Music Artists Coalition will advocate on behalf of artists in music-related disputes in Washington, according to Bloomberg. The board of the coalition includes musicians Don Henley, Dave Matthews, Anderson .Paak and Maren Morris. It also includes artist managers Irving Azoff, Coran Capshaw and John Silva, as well as publicist Kristen Foster.

Participating board members will self-fund the organization, and will hire a lobbyist to represent them in Washington. The Music Artists Coalition will be unique in its specific focus on music artists—existing lobbying groups focus on record labels, music publishers and radio stations.

Billboard reports that a main goal of the coalition will be to “educate and give artists, songwriters and other creators a voice in the many issues that determine how they are compensated in the complex digital landscape.”

Its priority list includes a rate increase from the Copyright Royalty Board; the formation of the Mechanical Licensing Collective, as part of the Music Modernization Act; and the reform of safe harbor protections for musicians, according to Billboard. The coalition will also weigh in on state legislation and policies that impact music artists.

The Music Artists Coalition was additionally covered by Variety, The Hill, POLITICO, Music Row and HITS Daily Double, among others.
