Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, was interviewed by Healthcare Dive to discuss the recently introduced pre-existing conditions bill.

The publication noted that the GOP introduced a bill that intends to prevent insurance companies from discriminating against their customers based on their health status or pre-existing conditions. However, critics pointed out that insurance companies could still exclude services that are associated with pre-existing conditions.

“The Senate bill falls short in not protecting those with pre-existing conditions against the rate increases necessary to make up for the loss of a balanced risk pool,” said Ario.
