Manatt’s Robert Jacobs, co-chair of the firm’s entertainment, media and sports litigation practice, was quoted by the Daily Journal for an article on new legislation that removes immunities for websites that are vulnerable to sex trafficking.
Jacobs explained that while he understands reservations about the new legislation, changes were necessary to modernize the Communications Decency Act and stop the abuse of loopholes.
“It’s a reflection of the fact that the world we’re in now is different from the world we were in then. Much more commerce is concentrated online. I think it’s a fair exchange to require more self-policing and oversight,” Jacobs said.
