Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director of Manatt Health, was interviewed by Modern Healthcare to discuss association health plans in Nevada.
The website noted that Nevada has three chambers of commerce—the Henderson, Boulder City and Latin chambers—that will offer AHPs starting in September. The website also pointed out that the cost of premiums for AHPs might be lower because the plans may favor healthier employer groups over less healthy ones.
“I suspect the chambers intend to have a rating methodology that's attractive to some and less attractive to others,” said Ario. “They'll end up with a better-than-average risk pool in the association, at the direct expense of people who can't get into the association.”
