Music Row covered Manatt’s representation of former American Idol star Danny Gokey in his agreement with Capitol Christian Music Group. Gary Gilbert, co-chair of the firm’s music practice, and Joseph Anderson, an attorney in the firm’s entertainment and media practice, represented Gokey through his negotiations with the group.
Gokey is a singer-songwriter who became widely known after placing in third during American Idol’s eighth season in 2008. Since then, he has released country and contemporary Christian albums, receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for his 2017 release, Rise.
“I’m excited to embrace a new chapter and walk into a new beginning with Capitol CMG,” Gokey told Music Row. “The music industry has gone through tremendous changes within the last decade and Capitol has always been at the forefront of innovative and creative solutions to help artists embrace the future.”
Owned by Universal Music Group, Capitol Christian Music Group is a leader in the Christian gospel music industry. There, Gokey will join the ranks of major contemporary, rock and gospel artists including Chris Tomlin, Amy Grant and Hillsong United.
