The World Intellectual Property Review interviewed Manatt’s Irah Donner, a partner in the firm’s intellectual property practice, for an article about Microsoft’s plans to use its patent portfolio to protect its Azure customers from litigation.
The program will address concerns customers have raised about IP exposure in areas where they don’t have a patent portfolio. While the program isn’t necessary, Donner noted, it could provide significant customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Donner also explained that indemnification is likely to be the main advantage of the program, although “the devil will be in the detail,” he said.
