Measuring Compliance Programs: Why It Matters

Measuring Compliance Programs: Why It Matters
– The Anti-Corruption Report

Manatt’s Jacqueline Wolff, co-chair of the firm’s corporate investigations and white collar defense practice, discussed corporate compliance programs with The Anti-Corruption Report for the first of a three-part series on measuring compliance.

According to the publication, most companies have some sort of established compliance program, but measuring its effectiveness can be challenging. Measuring and analyzing the success of a compliance program can help a company minimize future problems, or avoid them altogether.

“If a company measures the effectiveness of its compliance program on a periodic basis, it will be engaging in a cost-effective way of avoiding a bigger, more expensive problem down the line,” said Wolff. “Once a company has potentially violated the law, the cost of investigation is significantly greater than simply testing the effectiveness of a program beforehand.”
