Manatt’s Craig Moyer, co-chair of the firm’s energy practice, was quoted in an E&E News article that discussed California’s July 17 vote on a successor program for the state’s cap-and-trade system for greenhouse gases.
Governor Jerry Brown called it “the most important vote” lawmakers will ever face, stating at a recent legislative hearing that “cap and trade is the way forward.” Senate Republicans who oppose the bill claim it would raise the price of gasoline, and environmental justice groups say the bill is too generous to the greenhouse gas industry.
“Everybody’s unhappy; that tells you it’s probably a pretty good balance,” said Moyer.
