The Daily Journal quoted Manatt’s Sirena Castillo, an associate in the firm’s litigation practice, in an article on the swift actions taken by lawyers following President Trump’s orders to bar entry into the U.S. by people from seven majority Muslim countries. Castillo and five other Manatt associates spent much of the weekend at LAX airport, assisting with the efforts to release detainees.
Castillo was joined by associates Kishan Barot, Eric Chen, Luke Punnakanta, Olufunmilayo Showole and Molly Wyler at LAX, where organizations such as IRAP, Public Counsel and ACLU led the response.
“People arrived throughout the day,” Castillo said. “It was really inspiring to see the number of attorneys who turned out and wanted to do something. Lots of people with language skills.”
“Protesters were chanting, ‘Thank you, lawyers, for doing your part,’” Castillo said. “I never thought I would hear that.”
