Variety covered Manatt’s role in Sony Pictures’ partnership with Reality One, an immersive media content studio, to develop, produce and finance a slate of virtual reality content. Lindsay Conner, co-chair of the firm’s entertainment and media practice, drafted and handled the deal for Sony Pictures, with support from partner Sophia Yen.
The first-of-its-kind deal allows Sony to get ahead of the curve in the virtual reality space, with new projects expected to come to fruition later this year. Sony has already launched virtual reality experiences based on “Ghostbusters” and “The Walk,” and in July 2015 announced that Jake Zim would take on the role of senior vice president of virtual reality.
