Legal Newsline interviewed Manatt's Christine Reilly, co-chair of the firm's TCPA Compliance and Class Action Defense practice, for an article about the value of the Ninth Circuit's recent unpublished opinion dismissing a class action suit about text messages sent by company contractors.
Reilly told Legal Newsline that unpublished opinions are not unusual in very clear cases, when reaching a decision is very easy and there doesn't appear to be much to gain from issuing a lengthy opinion.
She added that the valuable lessons to be gained from the case include affirmation that consent to receive text messages from one company extends to the company's contractor. "I think that definitely provides some comfort for defendants," she said.
