July 17, 2013 - Manatt's Peter Csathy, chief executive officer of Manatt Digital Media Ventures, spoke to Variety about the increased criticism of YouTube's standard revenue-sharing model.

Variety reports that YouTube is home to more than one million content creators, making it the world's most massive and diverse video bazaar. However, content providers are getting restless, as more online distributors enter the market with more attractive revenue-sharing terms. YouTube typically gives content suppliers 55% of ad dollars that run against their content and keeps 45%. Apple on the other hand offers a 70% cut for content sold through iTunes, and Hulu's ad revenue share is within the same range.

YouTube's cut is simply the price of admission to the world's biggest video platform, said Csathy. "It's up to the content creator whether to accept those terms or not," he said. "We are all grownups and make our own decisions."
