December 2, 2013 - In a Q&A with the Los Angeles Business Journal, Manatt's George Kieffer, chair of the firm's Government & Regulatory Policy Division, discussed balancing his legal practice, civil activities and personal hobbies.

In its profile of Kieffer, the Los Angeles Business Journal notes that Kieffer has been with Manatt for over 40 years but is also known for his civic work outside the office. He led one of the commissions that reformed the city's charter and served as chairman of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. He now leads the Los Angeles Civic Alliance and is in his second term on the UC Board of Regents.

When asked what were his major accomplishments as chairman of the Los Angeles Area of Chamber Commerce, Kieffer replied:

"I strengthened the board, bringing in other business organizations like the Valley Industry and Commerce Association as ex-officio members. I think I also helped move the board in a more liberal political direction to give it more creditability on key issues in a region that was moving in that direction."

Kieffer also shared with the Journal the reasons why he went to law school, his passion for music, and his time as Maria Shriver's legal adviser.
