Joel Ario Speaks to Politico on California's Health Reform Success

"California: An Obamacare Success Story?"
Politico

May 31, 2013 – Manatt's Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health Solutions, spoke to Politico as to why California is outpacing other states in health reform.

As reported by Politico, California announced that rates will be reasonable for the 13 health insurers that will offer coverage through its health exchange, putting California ahead of many other states that are still struggling with the requirements of Obamacare. Drawing in 13 health plans gives California a good chance of being able to offer consumers more choices at lower costs, which is the goal of health reform.

California is a bit of an outlier, though – it already had strong competition among health insurers, even before Obamacare, said Ario. And some states will have barely any competition at all. New Hampshire, for example, may be stuck with just one health insurer in its exchange.
