Billboard Reports Client BMG Rights' Deal with Primary Wave
September 3, 2013 - Billboard featured Manatt client BMG Rights Management's strategic alliance with Primary Wave Music, which was announced by BMG on September 3, 2013. Manatt partner Aydin Caginalp was lead on this deal. The national team included Manatt partners Laurence Marks and George Cooke, counsel Daniel Stuart, and associates Scott Schwartz and Peter Cifichiello.
Billboard reports that the deal will include a strategic alliance between the two, in which Primary Wave will remain involved in the marketing of the publishing assets BMG is acquiring and will be involved in marketing BMG master recordings released in the U.S. The deal also includes a joint venture that will sign and develop recording artists and songwriters.
Primary Wave Music is one of the largest independent music publishing, marketing and talent companies in the U.S. It controls the copyright to more than 15,000 songs, including those from John Lennon, Chicago and Steven Tyler.
Since launching in 2008, BMG has acquired the rights to more than one million songs. The company now ranks fourth in music publishing.
This is the eighth such deal in three years that Manatt and Caginalp have been counsel to BMG on.
