June 28, 2012 - The New York Times turned to Manatt's Deborah Bachrach, a special counsel in the firm's Healthcare Division, on how the Supreme Court's ruling on health reform will affect the state of New York.
The New York Times reports that about one million New York State residents are expected to gain coverage through the Affordable Care Act, through a mix of Medicaid expansion and the individual mandate.
New York expanded its Medicaid program long ago to cover childless adults below the poverty line and parents who earn up to 133 percent of the poverty line. More than $2 billion in money for the state was riding on the decision.
"For New York, this is just an incredible victory because of the buyout of our Medicaid costs," said Bachrach, who is the State's former Medicaid director. "Finally New York gets rewarded for doing the right thing."
