Manatt Energy and Environment Partner David Smith wrote an article for Law360 on recent efforts to improve transmission expansion as state and national climate stakeholders continue to implement plans for the energy transition.
In the article, Smith noted that although technological improvements continue to progress, regulatory and financial barriers remain “static, uncompromising and intractable” as legislators, policymakers, grid operators, utilities, developers and others work to find solutions to effectively implement transmission infrastructure and advancements across the nation’s energy system. “Without adequate transmission infrastructure for all types of renewable energy, [stakeholders’] goals will remain merely aspirations that, in reality, are largely unattainable,” he wrote.
