Manatt Health Senior Managing Director Patricia Boozang was quoted in a Law360 article discussing how potential changes to Medicaid work requirements could impact coverage eligibility for individuals across the country.
Over a dozen states previously gained approval to roll out these work requirement programs but many efforts were halted due to legal challenges. Arkansas was one of the states which proceeded with the pilot program, for example, with Georgia launching its own as well. While job mandates have been proposed as a way to help improve a person’s well-being and independence, the administrative and legal roadblocks have proven significant. “[The Arkansas and Georgia] test cases provide ample evidence that work reporting requirements do neither of these things," Boozang said. “They are, however, administratively cumbersome, costly and cause eligible people, including working people, to lose coverage.”
