Manatt Health Partner Gregory Pimstone was recognized as one of the Leading Commercial Litigators in 2024 by Daily Journal, which honors top attorneys across the U.S. in commercial and bet-the-company litigation.
In his profile, Pimstone was recognized for his successful representation of Blue Shield in an appellate case confirming that Blue Shield, along with three other major health plans, are not insurers and therefore cannot be assessed the Gross Premium Tax paid by insurers in California. The case would have risked Medi-Cal's funding and resulted in significant back taxes for health plans.
Pimstone was also noted for leading the Firm’s defense of a major California health plan in a two-month trial brought by a group of substance use disorder clinics that raised important legal and public policy questions on what health care providers can offer to third parties and patients to get the patients in the door.
