Manatt Employment and Labor Leader Esra Hudson was recognized on Daily Journal’s 2024 Top Labor & Employment Lawyers list.
Hudson was highlighted for her legal strategic approaches and in one noteworthy case, she successfully defended a company from allegations of misclassification against their sales force consisting of thousands of independent contractor sales associates. In another case, Hudson thwarted a class action by tactically compelling arbitration in the client’s state which led to the conversion of the claim to PAGA-only.
According to Hudson, her workload will be impacted by the recent PAGA reforms, which have restored certain defense avenues undermined by courts including the authority for courts to manage the scope of PAGA claims. “The availability of these defenses will have a big impact on the defense of PAGA claims," she said.
