Manatt Entertainment partner and entertainment litigation practice leader Robert Jacobs spoke with Daily Journal about ongoing settlement discussions over the rights to the film “This is Spinal Tap” in Century of Progress Productions v. Vivendi S.A. et al. In the article, Jacobs notes that it’s not unusual for courts to grant extensions to the negotiation period in cases where the parties seem to be working toward a good faith settlement, saying, “Especially when the alternative is a complex trial that a judge would just as soon rather avoid when parties are constructively working towards a resolution, it's more cost effective and efficient, and tends to be more productive.”
