Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, spoke with Bloomberg Law to discuss changes in Obamacare’s health plans proposed by the Trump administration.
Under the proposal, plans and renewals could change by allowing insurers to cover healthy people at lower rates, making coverage for those with pre-existing conditions more expensive.
“I don’t believe they’ll offer those [renewability offers] to people with pre-existing conditions unless they’re very minor pre-existing conditions. So the rule still will hurt the ACA standard markets and will not help people with serious health conditions, but other people can get different kinds of renewability offers,” said Ario.
