HealthcareInfoSecurity spoke to Manatt's Robert Belfort, a partner in the firm's Healthcare practice, about ransomware attacks against hospitals. The attacks, in which attackers encrypt data and demand ransom to decrypt it, have become more common in recent weeks.
"There's been a sea change in the industry's evaluation of security risk over the last two years," said Belfort. "Before 2015, I would say most health insurers and healthcare providers viewed insider threats as their main concern. The external hacking that had been occurring in other industries hadn't really come to healthcare, but that radically changed last year."
