Weak Discipline Continues to Plague NCAA
The appearance in the Final Four of the NCAA basketball tournament of two teams tainted by disciplinary problems highlights the weakness of the NCAA in imposing discipline. This weakness was predicted 32 years ago by Supreme Court Justice Byron White in a well-known dissent in one of the most important sports cases ever decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
