Government Technology quoted Manatt's Patricia Boozang, a managing director with Manatt Health, on the possibility of whether states will decide to establish their own health insurance exchanges.
As reported by Government Technology, the deadline to apply for federal grants to help create state-run exchanges expires at the end of the year. Currently, the federal government is hosting 36 online marketplaces. Industry consultants and analysts think that states will eventually warm to the idea of seeking greater control over their own markets.
"It's historically been a state responsibility," said Boozang. "I think that's still a big driver, really wanting to have that level of state control, both in terms of regulation and the consumer piece of this."
