The Daily Journal interviewed Manatt's Benjamin Shatz, co-chair of the firm's Appellate practice, for an article on the appointments that California Gov. Jerry Brown recently made to the state courts of appeal.
As reported by theDaily Journal, Brown appointed U.S. District Judge Audrey B. Collins to the 2nd District Court of Appeal. Her appointment is unusual because federal judges rarely move to the state appellate courts. At 69, she is also significantly older than most judicial appointees.
"She is a beloved fixture of the legal community," said Shatz.
As for Collins' age, he said, "you have got a governor in his 70s, so he is never going to think age is a disqualifying factor in any sense."
