In the final days of the 2014 legislative session, the State Legislature passed a package of 11 bills aimed at the surge in heroin use, including a bill that addressed insurance coverage of substance use disorder treatment. On June 23, 2014, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the package of bills into law, including the insurance-related legislation, which is now Chapter 41 of the Laws of 2014. Provisions regarding SUD coverage and UR will generally take effect on April 1, 2015, and apply to policies issued, renewed, modified, altered or amended on and after such date.
