Billboard featured Manatt senior partner L. Lee Phillips in its coverage of the City of Hope Spirit Life Gala that was held on September 19 in Los Angeles to honor Creative Artists Agency's head of music and managing partner Rob Light. The event brought together many music industry leaders, including Phillips' clients Randy Jackson and Steve Perry.
In addition to honoring Light, whose Summer of Hope campaign this year raised in excess of $6 million, the event was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the City of Hope and the 40th anniversary of the organization's affiliation with the music industry.
The award was presented to Light by four of his five children and was followed by a video tribute that included a variety of entertainers, from Miley Cyrus and the NBA's Chris Paul to James Taylor and Bruce Springsteen. Universal Music Enterprises president Bruce Resnikoff, American Idol's Randy Jackson and actor Tim Robbins also presented. The night ended with an intimate performance from Stevie Wonder.
