Manatt Partner Speaks to Compliance Week on Internal Investigation Teams
"Assembling a Top-Notch and Flexible Investigations Team"
Compliance Week
July 9, 2013 - Manatt's Jacqueline Wolff, co-chair of the firm's Corporate Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice, spoke to Compliance Week about best practices for assembling an internal investigation team.
Compliance Week reports that the staffing and structuring of investigation teams often challenge compliance officers. While certain best practices hold true across the board, those who have conducted hundreds of investigations say the circumstances of each case ultimately determine who should be on the team and how they should operate.
"It really does turn very much on what the internal investigation is about," said Wolff.
She suggests compliance officers use risk maps to allocate investigations to the right personnel. Low-risk and low-impact areas are best suited to part-time investigators, she said, while compliance specialists and professional investigators should handle high-risk areas.
