New York Times Interviews Joel Ario on New Health Exchange Deadlines
"U.S. Extends a Deadline for States on Coverage"
The New York Times
November 9, 2012 - The New York Times interviewed Manatt's Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health Solutions, on the new deadline states must meet if they intend to set up state-based health insurance exchanges.
The New York Times reports that the Obama administration has granted states an extension to submit their plans for health insurance exchanges. The original November 16 deadline has been extended to December 14. States must submit their blueprints by the new deadline if they want to run their own exchanges. States that want to run exchanges in partnership with the federal government will have until February 15 to file applications.
"The administration's decision is a good move. It increases the chances that more states will opt for a partnership exchange, rather than default to a federal exchange," said Ario.
