Manatt partners Gordon M. Bava and David M. Grinberg have been recognized as two of the city’s Top 40 M&A Lawyers in the October 10 Los Angeles Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in L.A. Law” report. For 2011, the annual report focused exclusively on prominent Los Angeles dealmakers who have pulled off the year’s biggest mergers and acquisitions.
Gordon Bava, chair of the firm’s Business, Finance and Tax Division, was recognized for his work as chairman of local TV station KCET, relaunching it as the largest public station in the country independent of PBS.
“Gordon Bava is known as one of the town’s veteran corporate dealmakers, but he made news this year wearing a different hat,” wrote the Los Angeles Business Journal. Bava was also recognized for his work on major deals for Sucampo Pharmaceuticals and Pacific Capital Bancorp.
David Grinberg, chair of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice Group, was profiled on his biggest and most challenging deals. Grinberg’s biggest deal was representing NorthWestern Corp. in a $2.2 billion cash acquisition by Babcock & Brown infrastructure Ltd, and he considered his most challenging to be a three-party transaction among a private equity firm, a financial institution and a mortgage broker.
