Alexandra (Alix) S. McCown is a pro bono attorney based in Manatt’s New York office. Focusing her practice exclusively on pro bono, she represents clients in a variety of immigration matters, including affirmative and defensive asylum matters; T visa, U visa, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) matters; and federal court actions. Alix also works on amicus briefs for matters that will have a positive impact on the immigrant community.
Prior to joining Manatt, Alix was a senior staff attorney at Safe Passage Project, a nonprofit legal services organization dedicated to assisting refugee and immigrant children in the New York City area who face deportation, despite their strong legal claim to stay in the United States. There she helped more than 50 young persons navigate immigration matters, with a focus on removal defense. She also worked at a well-known international law firm, where she focused on complex litigation and represented clients in numerous immigration-related pro bono matters.
While attending New York University School of Law, Alix worked as a student advocate at the Immigrant Defense Clinic, which was run in partnership with the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Unit.
